πŸ€πŸ’™πŸ§‘ Why designers skip some photos (and pick others)

"You don't need a perfect plan, you need the next clear step and the courage to take it right now."

A quick trick buyers love

Hey Reader

Designers love images that give them space to work with. When you make their job easier, your photos stand out and are far more likely to get picked.

Here's a simple way to think about it next time you're shooting.

  • Leave clean areas for text: like sky, wall, desk or fabric.
  • Keep backgrounds simple and consistent
  • Hold back on filters and avoid clutter.

And instead of just taking one frame, try three:

  • A safe frame, centred and balanced.
  • A creative frame, with angles, depth or texture
  • A text-friendly frame, plenty of negative space.

As you're shooting, ask yourself:

Where could a headline sit?

Would a logo fit neatly here?

This week, I'd like you to pick one subject you've already photographed. Re-shoot it with those three frames in mind, then upload the set.

If you'd like an extra pair of eyes, reply with a link to one of your images, and I'll tell you where I think the copy would sit best.

P.S. I've put together something to make your stock photography shoots easier to plan and more effective. It's a simple two-page PDF you can print out or keep on your tablet while you work.

"Your photography business isn't just a job, it's a journey. Enjoy it, learn from it and make it uniquely yours." Adrenaline & Burning Rubber Hey Reader Last week I went to a motorsport photography event at Brands Hatch, and I absolutely loved it. I’m a big motorsport fan. For my 40th birthday, I drove a single-seater around the Silverstone circuit. What a thrill. I’ll never forget it. I was slightly too short to reach the pedals properly, only managing with my toes if I stretched. I was...

"No-one remembers perfect, they remember real. Show up as you, and your brand will connect deeper." Are you winging it in your business? Hey Reader I want to talk about what actually brings in photography clients, and it's not just being good at what you do (although that helps). It's strategy. Not guesswork. Not random social posts that you churn out and hope something sticks, and not crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. If you want a steady stream of clients, you need a simple...
