🤍💙🧡 Why designers skip some photos (and pick others)

"You don't need a perfect plan, you need the next clear step and the courage to take it right now."

A quick trick buyers love

Hey Reader

Designers love images that give them space to work with. When you make their job easier, your photos stand out and are far more likely to get picked.

Here's a simple way to think about it next time you're shooting.

  • Leave clean areas for text: like sky, wall, desk or fabric.
  • Keep backgrounds simple and consistent
  • Hold back on filters and avoid clutter.

And instead of just taking one frame, try three:

  • A safe frame, centred and balanced.
  • A creative frame, with angles, depth or texture
  • A text-friendly frame, plenty of negative space.

As you're shooting, ask yourself:

Where could a headline sit?

Would a logo fit neatly here?

This week, I'd like you to pick one subject you've already photographed. Re-shoot it with those three frames in mind, then upload the set.

If you'd like an extra pair of eyes, reply with a link to one of your images, and I'll tell you where I think the copy would sit best.

"You only need one strong idea to begin" Why Stock Feels Confusing. Hey Reader If stock photography has ever felt confusing or inconsistent, it’s not because you’re doing it wrong. Most photographers struggle with stock for one reason. They’re left guessing. Guessing what to shoot. Guessing what buyers want. Guessing why some images are accepted, and others aren’t. Stock photography works best when you stop guessing and start following a clear process, with intention. That’s something I’ve...

"Small, consistent steps create lasting freedom in your photography business." What's really holding you back? Hey Reader Let's be honest for a moment. When it comes to building passive income, it's rarely a lack of ideas that holds you back. It's something deeper. For some, it's fear - fear of getting it wrong, or wasting time. For others, it's overwhelm - too many options, too much noise. And often, it's because we think ordinary work won't sell. But it does. Every day. The photos, tools,...

"You make progress when you cut noise, so mute the distractions and finish the one task that pays you." Define Your Goals, Plan Your Path. Hey Reader As we approach the end of 2025, there's one thing I've learned that makes the biggest difference in business growth, and that's having a clear goal and a plan to reach it. It's not just about saying, "I want to earn more", or "I want to grow my audience." It's about setting a number, then working backwards to figure out exactly how you'll get...
