๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก August is the secret weapon for Q4 Etsy sales

"Small, consistent steps create lasting freedom in your photography business."

Imagine this ....

Hey Reader

From My Desk

Imagine waking up in November to a string of order notifications.

Prints. Canvases. Digital downloads. One after another.

Your Etsy shop - the one you built around your photography - having its busiest week ever. Buyers who found you through search, who loved what they saw, who didn't hesitate because your shop looked professional, your listings made sense, and your photos made them stop scrolling.

That is Q4 for a well-prepared Etsy shop. And it's not a fantasy - it's what happens when photographers treat August as the month that makes it possible.

Here's the reality: Q4, October, November and December, is by far the biggest quarter on Etsy. For many shops, it accounts for a quarter to a third of annual revenue. Buyers are actively searching for art prints, and something beautiful and personal to give as a gift. Your photography is exactly what they're looking for.

But Etsy's algorithm needs time to crawl your shop, kind of a runway into October. Listings that are optimised, live and building history now are the ones that rank in October when the searches start flooding in. Listings published in November are competing against shops that have been building momentum for months.

The difference between a bumper Q4 and a quiet one isn't talent. It isn't even the photography. It's preparation, and it starts right now, in August.

One Small Thing - Book your Etsy Audit - I have spaces open right now.

I've opened up 2 extra Etsy Shop Audit Spaces for August - specifically for sellers who want to get their shop Q4-ready before the window closes.

Get clear next steps you can act on straight away, before Q4 hits.

New: Instalment payments now available. You can now split the cost of your audit across three payments - so getting your shop sorted for Q4 doesn't have to wait. You'll receive your personalised Etsy Shop Audit within your first month's payment.

On my Radar

Etsy. Etsy sellers who treat August as a prep window enter Q4 with a full advantage. According to Etsy's own holiday calendar data, sellers who have listings live and optimised by early October see significantly better Q4 results, because Etsy's algorithm rewards listing history, not last-minute uploads. The sellers who scramble in November are competing against shops that have been building momentum for months. August is your runway.

Stock. Authentic, real-world imagery is what stock buyers want most heading into Q4. As brand and businesses plan their Q4 campaigns, demand for relatable, real-life imagery increases sharply: people at Christmas-decorated tables, cosy home scenes, gift-giving moments that feel genuine rather than staged. If you're building your stock portfolio, the next few weeks are a great time to focus on lifestyle shots that commercial buyers will actively search for.

So delve into that hard drive and find all those Christmas images you took last year that you still haven't uploaded.

"Consistency builds confidence - and income." Views, visits & conversions. Hey Reader From My Desk Many photographers I speak with who sell on Etsy have a gut feeling about how their shop is doing. A good week feels like momentum. A quiet week feels like something's wrong. But very few actually sit down and look at whether their shop is genuinely healthy, or just occasionally lucky. There's a difference between a shop that sells and a shop that works. A shop that works has titles buyers...

"You're closer to results than you think, so cut one task that stalls you and do the one that moves you." The Extra Shot Hey Reader Have you ever had the 'why didn't I try this sooner moment?' My husband has always been an avid monopod user; personally, unless I was shooting video, I never used one. I was in a discussion thread on Facebook several weeks ago where the topic was monopods vs tripods. Someone shared a monopod that has 3 fold-out feet to convert to a tripod. I was intrigued, so I...

"Small, consistent steps create lasting freedom in your photography business." Hey Reader From My Desk I check what's trending across the stock libraries every few weeks. Partly for 'The Extra Shot', partly because it keeps me honest about what I'm actually shooting versus what's selling. This week, one search term stopped me. "Moonlit night" is up 163% on Shutterstock. My first thought was that it was a random spike, the kind of thing that jumps for a week and disappears. Then I did the...
