๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก How do you actually know if your Etsy shop is healthy?

"Consistency builds confidence - and income."

Views, visits & conversions.

Hey Reader

From My Desk

Many photographers I speak with who sell on Etsy have a gut feeling about how their shop is doing. A good week feels like momentum. A quiet week feels like something's wrong. But very few actually sit down and look at whether their shop is genuinely healthy, or just occasionally lucky.

There's a difference between a shop that sells and a shop that works.

A shop that works has titles buyers actually search for. Photos that stop the scroll. Descriptions that answer the question before the buyer has to ask it. Pricing that covers the fees and still makes sense ( and, more importantly, profit). Policies that build trust before anyone clicks to buy.

A shop that occasionally sells can still have all of those things quietly off. And you'd never know because a sale every now and then feels like proof it's fine. It usually isn't. It's just survivable.

The thing that helped me most was having someone look at my own shop with fresh eyes, someone who wasn't me, who hadn't spent so long inside it that they'd stopped seeing it clearly.

Over To You - Check these numbers in your shop stats right now

Log in to your Shop Manager, go to Stats, and look at the following:

  • Views vs visits - if views are high but visits are low, your thumbnails aren't converting clicks to actual shop visits.
  • Conversion rate - Etsy's average is around 1-3%. If yours is below that, something in the listing experience is losing buyers.
  • Your top listing - is it the one you'd expect? If not, ask yourself why that one works, and your others don't.

Write down one thing that surprises you. That's where to start.

If you want someone to go through all of this with you properly - titles, tags, photos, pricing, descriptions, stats - that's exactly what my Etsy Shop Audit does. I've just relaunched it with three tiers so you can choose the level that works for you:

Tier 1 - Written Audit: ยฃ67 founding price.

Full written report across 14 areas of your shop, plus a worked listing rewrite and phased action timeline. Delivered within 5 business days.

Tier 2 - Written Audit + Loom Video Walkthrough ยฃ97 founding price

On My Radar

Etsy: Etsy Up 2026 is this Thursday - and it's free to attend.

Etsy is hosting its free annual seller event online this Thursday, 24th September, at 1 pm ET. Sessions include a Gen Z buyer panel, Etsy holiday trends, and updates direct from Etsy's CEO and leadership team. If you RSVP by Wednesday, 23rd, you're also entered into a sweepstakes for a $1,000 Etsy gift card and $500 Ads credit. Worth an hour of your time heading into Q4. Search 'Etsy Up 2026' to find the RSVP page.

Stock: The strongest-selling stock images right now are deliberately unpolished.

The highest-demand stock categories in 2026 include authentic lifestyle imagery of real people doing ordinary things, and food shot in casual home settings rather than in a studio. Buyers are actively moving away from the overly produced look - which means your real-life, real-light photography is exactly what the market wants. If you've been holding back because your images don't look "stock enough", that's worth reconsidering.

Hit reply and tell me: when did you last properly look at your Etsy shop stats, and did anything surprise you?

"You're closer to results than you think, so cut one task that stalls you and do the one that moves you." The Extra Shot Hey Reader Have you ever had the 'why didn't I try this sooner moment?' My husband has always been an avid monopod user; personally, unless I was shooting video, I never used one. I was in a discussion thread on Facebook several weeks ago where the topic was monopods vs tripods. Someone shared a monopod that has 3 fold-out feet to convert to a tripod. I was intrigued, so I...

A partially illuminated moon against a dark starry sky

"Small, consistent steps create lasting freedom in your photography business." Hey Reader From My Desk I check what's trending across the stock libraries every few weeks. Partly for 'The Extra Shot', partly because it keeps me honest about what I'm actually shooting versus what's selling. This week, one search term stopped me. "Moonlit night" is up 163% on Shutterstock. My first thought was that it was a random spike, the kind of thing that jumps for a week and disappears. Then I did the...

An image of a woman wearing a hat holding a camera in the autumn sun

"You don't need new gear to progress; you need consistent output and focused effort that compounds over time." Same shoot, double the income Hey Reader From My Desk I used to treat every shoot like it only had one job. Etsy day. Stock day. Content day. Three separate plans for the same camera, three separate trips out, three separate mental lists, and somehow I never had enough time to do any of them properly. I kept trying to squeeze in more shoot days to keep up, but all that got me was...
