Have you ever had the 'why didn't I try this sooner moment?'

My husband has always been an avid monopod user; personally, unless I was shooting video, I never used one.

I was in a discussion thread on Facebook several weeks ago where the topic was monopods vs tripods. Someone shared a monopod that has 3 fold-out feet to convert to a tripod. I was intrigued, so I headed over to Google to check it out.

There it was: a SIRUI carbon fibre monopod; it converts from a tall tripod/monopod standing at 104cm to a small 11.5 cm tripod with a quick-release action to remove your camera from the monopod with fold-out feet.

It has a pivoting ball base, which came in super handy when I was trying to capture a shot of an aeroplane in the sky framed by two trees for my stock portfolio.

The added bonus is that the ball joint that I have on my Neewer tripod fits this carbon fibre SIRUI monopod.

I have genuinely used it every time I've been out since buying it. I took my Neewer tripod as well as my SIRUI monopod to the coast last week to capture some long-exposure shots, but I can honestly say the SIRUI will be in my kit everywhere I go.

The lesson I want to leave you with: the kit that sounds like "not for me" is sometimes exactly the thing that quietly changes how you work.
